Surat: Devika Vala, a 33-year-old woman working as a teacher, was allegedly cheated of Rs 6 lakh by a man who promised to secure a police constable’s job for her. The accused allegedly gained the woman’s confidence by claiming to have influential contacts with senior govt officials and politicians before collecting money on the pretext of arranging the appointment.According to the FIR, the complainant Devika, a resident of Utran, works as a teacher at a private school. The accused, Savan Haresh Movaliya, was known to her family and frequently visited their house, as both families share social relations.Taking advantage of the familiarity, Movaliya allegedly offered to arrange a police constable’s job and assured the family that he could get the appointment order issued through his contacts with senior officials. To win her confidence, he also showed them his pictures with various govt officers and politicians. The accused assured her of an appointment order for a police constable’s role within a month.He allegedly demanded money for the job and collected a total of Rs 6 lakh from the complainant and her family in different instalments. The accused assured them that the money would be returned if the appointment did not materialise.However, despite repeated assurances, Movaliya failed to arrange the promised job or return the money. He also continued making excuses when the complainant sought repayment. After waiting for a considerable period, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint on Nov 7, 2026.Police registered an FIR under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Savan Haresh Movaliya and initiated an investigation into the alleged cheating.
