Surat: Mayors from several cities across Gujarat visited the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Wednesday for the Gujarat regional-level meeting of the All India Council of Mayors, focusing on urban development, local self-governance, citizen-centric services and the growth of municipal corporations.Mayors from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Mehsana, Vapi, Anand, Navsari and Surendranagar participated in the meeting, along with senior SMC officials.The meeting aimed to strengthen urban local bodies through greater collaboration, exchange of experiences and sharing of best practices. Discussions focused on improving civic services, sanitation, good governance, civic amenities and future-oriented urban planning.During the meeting, the SMC presented details of several major development initiatives, including the Tapi purification project, Dumas sea-face development project, robotics-based training and machine learning programmes in municipal schools.The delegates also received a detailed briefing from technical officials on the functioning of the Integrated Command and Control Centre’s (ICCC) complaint management analysis cell.As part of their visit, the delegation toured the Metro station component of the multi-modal transport hub, Bamroli tertiary treatment plant and the Dumas sea-face development project.
