Surat: A 34-year-old history-sheeter, Satish Ghadge alias Satish Maratha, was allegedly hacked to death by a group of around six men in Bhestan on Wednesday afternoon while he was travelling with a female friend.The attackers, who were travelling in three to four vehicles, intercepted Ghadge’s car near the road behind the Bhestan artificial lake and attacked him with sharp weapons. Witnesses also reported hearing gunshots.The incident occurred after Ghadge picked up the 20-year-old woman from Bhagwan Mahavir College in Althan. Police suspect that the assailants may have followed him from the college.After being attacked inside the car, Ghadge reportedly tried to flee and ran towards a nearby open ground. However, the attackers allegedly chased him and continued assaulting him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.Bhestan police have formed several teams to trace and arrest the assailants. Police suspect that the accused may have fled Surat after the murder.“We are in the process of registering the complaint. Ghadge was a history-sheeter and had been released from jail last year. He was one of the accused in the Surya Marathi murder case but was acquitted by the court. We suspect that an old enmity may have led to the murder. The exact motive will become clear after the accused are arrested,” a police officer said.
