Surat: A 40-year-old financer has lodged a cheating complaint alleging that he was duped of Rs 66 lakh after being lured into investing in ambulance-related contracts with the promise of substantial returns.According to the FIR registered at Pal police station on Wednesday, complainant Devendra Vyas alleged that the accused, Hemant Parmar, introduced him to an ambulance business opportunity. Parmar claimed to have several ambulance contracts in Surat and 16 contracts in Bengaluru and Hyderabad under the name ‘Sunshine Ambulance.’Parmar allegedly told Vyas that operating the ambulances could generate returns of up to 15%. He further claimed that he needed funds to install ICU facilities inside the ambulances but was unable to secure a bank loan for the work.Lured by the prospects of the scheme, Vyas agreed to finance the business. After receiving the initial investment, Parmar allegedly made a video call to Vyas and showed him ambulance bodywork being carried out at a workshop, according to the complaint.The FIR states that Vyas paid Parmar a total of Rs 66 lakh through multiple transactions between May 27 and Nov 10, 2023.However, Vyas alleged that despite receiving the money, Parmar failed to fulfil the commitments made to him and did not return the amount. Police have registered a cheating complaint and are investigating the allegations.
