Pregnant woman alleges voyeurism at wellness centre

Surat: A 25-year-old pregnant woman lodged a complaint alleging voyeurism after an unidentified man allegedly entered her treatment room during a physiotherapy session at a wellness centre in the Citylight area. The matter led to a confrontation at the centre and cross FIRs at Umra police station.According to the woman’s complaint, she is four months pregnant and had booked a one-hour physiotherapy session costing Rs 4,000 at Amethyst Wellness Centre after finding details about it on Instagram.She told police that before the session on Monday, she asked the reception staff if any men worked at the centre and was told that no male employees were on staff.The woman was taken to a separate room for the physiotherapy session. As there was a power outage, the treatment was being conducted by candlelight. During the procedure, a woman staff member allegedly entered the room with an unidentified man. The complainant objected to the man’s presence and said that he later left the room.The woman later approached police, alleging that her privacy had been compromised.Police registered a case under voyeurism provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began efforts to identify the man and ascertain the circumstances under which he entered the treatment room.Called husband, created ruckusOn noticing the man in her room, the woman had called her husband, who arrived at the centre shortly afterwards. In a counter FIR, Deepa Sahu, manager of the wellness centre, alleged that the woman’s husband created a ruckus and attempted to attack a woman staff member. Sahu alleged that he threw a marble stone, glass bottle and a wooden box at her.Sahu said the centre employs nine women therapists and a receptionist. She stated that no men work at the facility except a housekeeping worker.Police were called to the centre following the confrontation. An FIR was registered based on Sahu’s complaint.
