Cop caught taking bribe for unfreezing account in cybercrime case

Surat: Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) Vadodara unit caught a constable posted at Ankleshwar GIDC police station red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 to facilitate the unfreezing of a bank account linked to a cybercrime investigation.The accused, Sunil Parmar, was attached to Ankleshwar GIDC police station, where a cybercrime case involving the complainant’s bank account was registered. According to the ACB, the complainant’s business bank account was frozen as part of the investigation.Investigators said Parmar repeatedly contacted the complainant on the phone and demanded Rs 25,000 for getting the account unfrozen. He later met the complainant in person and reiterated the demand.The complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint. After conducting preliminary verification, ACB officials found the allegations to be prima facie true and organised a trap.During the operation, the accused allegedly engaged in a conversation regarding the demand and accepted the bribe amount. ACB officials immediately apprehended him while accepting the money.
