Surat: Bhestan police have arrested five accused on Friday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man following a dispute over children playing.According to police, the incident stemmed from an argument five days earlier between the deceased’s younger brother, 20-year-old Samir Saiyed and one of the accused, Shobhan Shah. Samir had reportedly confronted Shobhan after he allegedly assaulted a minor relative during a quarrel between children while they were playing.Police said Shobhan allegedly held a grudge over the incident and on Thursday night, returned with four others armed with sharp weapons to attack Samir. After Samir alerted his father and family members, his elder brothers, including Salman Saiyed, intervened and tried to protect him.During the attack, the accused allegedly assaulted Salman, Samir and their brothers. Salman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he died during treatment.Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) S C Tarde said police have arrested all five accused —Shahid Raza Shaikh, Samir Shaikh, Mubin Shaikh, Shobhan Shah and Sabir Shaikh — in connection with the murder.“We have arrested all five accused in connection with the murder. We are investigating further and trying to recover the weapons used in the crime and gather other evidence. We are also investigating whether anyone else was involved”, ACP Tarde said.The FIR was registered on the complaint of Salman and Samir’s father, 53-year-old Rustam Jan Saiyed. A native of Bihar, Rustam has been living in Bhestan for the past six years with his wife, eight sons and other family members. He works in the plastic-waste trade.
