Khajod waste site fire brought under control after 60 hours

Surat: A massive fire that broke out at the Khajod waste disposal site three days ago was finally brought under control after nearly 60 hours of continuous firefighting, officials from the Surat Fire and Emergency Services said. No casualties were reported.Teams from 12 fire stations were pressed into service to tackle the blaze. A total of 13 fire engines, water bowsers and around 78 fire personnel were deployed in the operation. Officials said nearly 18 lakh litres of water were used to douse the fire. Nearby establishments, including the Surat Diamond Bourse, Colourtex and other industrial units, also extended support by supplying additional water, which helped contain the fire.To prevent any fresh flare-up, the fire department has stationed teams at the site for continuous monitoring. Soil is also being dumped over the affected areas to ensure the fire does not spread further or reignite.
