Surat: A 22-year-old man’s luxurious Manali getaway with his girlfriend, funded by the loot money, came to an abrupt end when Ichhapore police arrested him for allegedly attacking his pregnant neighbour and stealing Rs 2.26 lakh.The accused, identified as Jatin Chaudhary, allegedly attacked his seven-months pregnant neighbour on Dec 16 with chilli powder and looted valuables worth Rs 2.26 lakh.Ichhapore police inspector AC Gohil told TOI, “Chaudhary knocked on the woman’s door and attacked her with chilli powder. After she fainted, he kicked and punched her and injured her with a screwdriver before fleeing with valuables worth Rs 2.26 lakh.”After the incident, Chaudhary fled Surat on his moped, reached the railway station, and boarded the Tuticorin–Okha train. He then contacted his Ahmedabad-based girlfriend from Rajasthan, transferring Rs 35,000 to her account and asking her to join him in Himachal Pradesh.Using a combination of technical analysis and human intelligence, police traced the couple to a hotel in Manali. “We kept surveillance near their hotel and arrested Chaudhary when he stepped out,” Gohil added.Chaudhary, a Rajasthan native, was employed in a Surat-based transport firm. He has been brought back to Surat for further investigation.
