Surat: Chief minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the redeveloped 317-bed UNM General Hospital at Vyara in Tapi district on Tuesday, marking an expansion of healthcare infrastructure in South Gujarat. He will also lay the foundation stone for an 800-bed UNM hospital and medical college on the same campus.The 317-bed facility will serve as a transitional hospital until the new 800-bed facility is developed. The existing hospital building, which has been operational since 1983, will be redeveloped as part of the larger project.The redeveloped hospital has 383 rooms spread across 9,986 sq m of carpet area, including 217 ward beds and 46 critical-care beds. It will have 24 dedicated OPD rooms covering 17 clinical specialities and is designed to cater to around 1,200 patients a day. The facility will also have four operation theatres and a post-mortem facility.Critical-care infrastructure includes 34 ICU beds, 12 NICU/PICU beds and six emergency beds. Other facilities include an eight-bed dialysis unit, Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), Kangaroo Mother Care room and Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) ward, along with new-generation biomedical equipment.The proposed 800-bed hospital and medical college will have 150 medical seats and an attached hostel. The project is being developed under a public-private partnership between the Torrent Group’s UNM Foundation and the state govt, under a 33-year concession agreement.Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi will attend as the guest of honour.
