Surat: Umargam mamlatdar and executive magistrate D C Brahmankachh was found dead on railway tracks near Umargam railway station, triggering shock across the region.Govt Railway Police registered an unnatural death and began an investigation. Brahmankachh was from Sherimal village in Dharampur taluka of Valsad district and was living alone. Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Brahmankachh went to the railway tracks from his home and jumped in front of a train.Questions were raised about possible pressure on him due to election-related proceedings that continued late into the night on Monday. Scrutiny of nomination forms for local body elections went on till late, with arguments over several forms. After completing the work, Brahmankachh returned home and later went to the railway tracks. Sources said hearings continued as political representatives demanded cancellation of certain forms for the taluka panchayat elections, while those whose forms faced cancellation brought lawyers to argue their case. Police said Brahmankachh did not leave behind a note or message explaining his actions. So far, no family member or friend has raised allegations against anyone. The incident raised concerns in administrative and political circles. Sources said the officer may have been unable to cope with the pressure. Police have begun investigation into the death and the circumstances surrounding it. Officials said all aspects of the case, including claims of political and administrative pressure, will be examined thoroughly. “We are yet to check CCTV footage related to Brahmankachh’s movements and his call data records. These details will be examined to find out more details,” a police officer said.
