Three of a family killed in road accident

Surat: Three members of a family were killed in a road accident on Sunday near Bhoriya village in Ambika taluka of Surat district, when a speeding car hit their motorcycle and flung them into the air. A seven-year-old boy survived with serious injuries and is in hospital.The victims were identified as Ashish Patel (31), a farmer, his wife Parul (29) and their relative Usha (60). The family was returning to Samba village from a wedding when the accident occurred on the Valsvada-Bhoriya road. Ashish, Parul, their son and Usha were on the motorcycle when a car took a sharp turn, came onto the wrong side of the road and hit them. The impact propelled the victims into the air. Usha fell on a pile of bricks about 15 feet away. Ashish and Usha died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Parul and the boy were taken to a hospital in Navsari. Parul later succumbed to her injuries. The boy was later moved to a private hospital in Surat for further treatment. The car was being driven by one Nilay Patel (31), a resident of Vagheshwar village, who also suffered injuries and was admitted to hospital. Locals had rushed to the accident spot and helped shift the injured to medical facilities. Anaval police registered an accidental death case and began an investigation. “The driver will be arrested once he is discharged from the hospital. The boy has suffered a fracture and other injuries. His condition is stable currently,” a police officer said. The boy is the only son of the deceased couple and is now dependent on his grandfather, Satish Patel (57), who filed the FIR.
