Surat: Acting on a tip-off, officers of the directorate of revenue intelligence seized 2,017g of the banned synthetic psychoactive drug MDMA (colloquially called ecstasy) — worth over Rs 2 crore — in the possession of a Nigerian woman at Surat railway station on Wednesday.The woman, Emmanuella Gold Ikhanoba, was intercepted while travelling on Train 12954, the August Kranti Tejas Rajdhani Express. Officials said she boarded the train from Delhi.During a search, DRI officers allegedly recovered 2,017g of MDMA from her possession. The drug is estimated to be worth more than Rs 2 crore in the illicit market.After the seizure, the woman was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.Officials said further investigation is under way to determine the intended recipient and destination of the drug consignment. Investigators are also examining whether the accused was in India legally.The DRI said the operation was carried out on the basis of advance intelligence, leading to the successful interception of the passenger before the drugs could be delivered.
