Surat: Parts of South Gujarat received light to moderate rainfall since Tuesday morning, with Ahwa in Dang district recording the highest at 56mm. Kaprada in Valsad district received 37mm of rain, while Ukai in Tapi district reported 18mm, as intermittent showers continued across the region. With forecast warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible lightning activity, the Dang district disaster management authorities issued an alert for residents. The forecast indicates that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into the coastal areas of Gujarat over the next two to three days. The state is currently experiencing an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Gujarat, along with a trough from central Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat and across Rajasthan. On Tuesday, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4°C, 2.5 degrees above normal, and a minimum temperature of 29.2°C, 1.6 degrees above normal. The city experienced partly cloudy weather with high humidity. The city’s maximum temperature is likely to be around 40°C on Wednesday. Other cities and towns that recorded temperatures of 40°C or above on Tuesday included Gandhinagar and Rajkot at 40.5°C, and Surendranagar and Kandla at 40°C. No major change in temperatures is likely in the state for the next few days. Dang district disaster management officials cautioned people against venturing out during thunderstorms and advised them to avoid standing under trees, open fields and other exposed locations during lightning activity. Citizens were also warned against attempting to cross low-lying bridges or causeways due to the risk of sudden water flow and reduced visibility.
