Surat: Six days after a woman allegedly ended her life, Amroli police registered an abetment-to-suicide case against her husband and four relatives.The case was registered on Oct 21 following a complaint by the deceased’s elder sister, Gita Vaghasiya (33), who alleged that Laxmi Dobariya (30) had faced prolonged mental and physical harassment by her husband and his relatives.The accused have been identified as Laxmi’s husband, Hardik Dobariya, father-in-law Amarsi Dobariya, brother-in-law Piyush, sister-in-law Janvi and Hardik’s cousin Jaydeep.According to the FIR, the accused frequently harassed Laxmi over domestic disputes and pressured her to leave her matrimonial home. The family had also allegedly accused her of having an affair with Jaydeep, who regularly visited their home for meals.Around six months ago, a meeting was held between the two families over these allegations. The complainant alleged that Laxmi was subsequently taken to her in-laws’ native place in Botad, where she was assaulted.Laxmi reportedly refused to return to her matrimonial home after the incident. However, her family persuaded her to reconcile with her husband, citing the couple’s two children.The alleged harassment continued over the following months. On Oct 16, Laxmi allegedly jumped from the balcony of her fifth-floor residence in Amroli.The complainant alleged that Hardik and his family initially tried to portray the incident as an accident. She further claimed that sustained mental harassment and ill-treatment had driven her sister to take the extreme step.
