Surat:A team from the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) visited Surat over three days to study the river rejuvenation initiatives undertaken by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and assess their outcomes. The visit concluded on Friday.On the final day, a joint review meeting was held at the integrated command and control centre. It focused on the progress and outcomes of the Tapi River Rejuvenation Project being implemented by the SMC. The team reviewed the project’s strategies and on-ground results in detail and discussed the feasibility of applying similar approaches to river-cleaning initiatives across the Ganga basin.The meeting also covered future drainage planning, infrastructure augmentation and measures to protect the Tapi by preventing the discharge of polluted water into it.Following the review, the visiting team appreciated the SMC’s efforts and observed that the interventions have contributed to an improvement in the Tapi’s water quality. The measures were also noted for their potential contribution to reducing water-borne diseases and delivering positive ecological outcomes.The meeting was attended by Brijendra Swarup, executive director (projects), NMCG and SMC deputy commissioner Nidhi Siwach, along with officials from various municipal departments.
