Man tapes phone under seat to cheat during PSI exam

Surat: Police booked a 22-year-old man for allegedly trying to cheat in the police sub-inspector (PSI) recruitment exam by taping a mobile phone under a bench inside the exam hall. The accused, Shivam Yadav, was scheduled to take the exam on Sunday morning but was caught before he could use the device.The Gujarat govt conducted the written exam for PSI recruitment on Sunday, with Surat among the designated centres. Madhuvan International School was one of the venues. Yadav, a resident of Ankleshwar, had come to Surat to take the test. Police said Yadav entered the school at 6am, well before the police bandobust was in place and taped a phone under a bench using double-sided tape. Just before the exam began, an examiner checking the room noticed the smartphone under the bench. Verification revealed that the seat in question was allotted to Yadav. Police were informed and Yadav was summoned for questioning. He allegedly admitted to planting the phone earlier in the morning. “He confessed that he planned to use Chat GPT and Google to search answers using the mobile. We are probing who helped him get inside the exam hall so much before time,” a police official said. After the incident, Yadav was debarred from the exam and booked for trespassing and use of unfair means under Sections 329(3) and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 12(1) and 3 of the Gujarat Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
