Surat:Varachha police have registered a case after a 29-year-old tribal woman alleged that she was raped and blackmailed by a diamond worker in Varachha. The accused, 33, reportedly threatened the victim with nude videos taken during the assault and later circulated them on social media. He also allegedly created an Instagram account in the victim’s name and shared the videos and images publicly.According to the complaint, the accused, who works at a diamond unit in the Varachha police station area, had developed a relationship with the woman, a textile worker at a nearby unit. He allegedly took her to a location, forced her into a physical relationship, and recorded a nude video, which he then used to blackmail her, warning her not to disclose the matter.When the victim refused to comply with his demands, the accused reportedly sent the videos to her relatives and threatened her and her children.Fed up with the harassment, the victim approached the police, filing a complaint under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the IT Act. Police from the Surat SC-ST cell have detained the accused and sent him for medical examination, while the investigation is underway.
