Surat: Three elderly residents were rescued from an eighth-floor apartment after a fire broke out in a high-rise building on Saturday morning in Vesu. The fire broke out at Sunrise Residency ‘C’ Tower on Vesu VIP Road.According to officials, Surat Fire and Emergency Services received a call at 5:42 am. Teams from Vesu, Bhimrad and Majura fire stations were immediately dispatched to the location, and multiple teams reached the spot.Preliminary information indicates that the fire was triggered by a short circuit in the wiring. The blaze damaged household items, including a television, a TV showcase, furniture, fans and electrical wiring. Thick smoke spread through the flat, creating dangerous conditions for the occupants.Firefighters found three people trapped inside a bedroom. They could not come out due to smoke in the front room. Rescue personnel forced entry by breaking the apartment door and evacuated all three residents safely. Those rescued include a 91-year-old woman, a 71-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman.Officials said the 91-year-old woman suffered significant breathing distress due to smoke inhalation, with her oxygen level dropping sharply. She was shifted to a hospital soon after being brought out of the apartment.Firefighters carried out ventilation and cooling operations to prevent the fire from spreading further and to clear smoke from the apartment. The situation was brought under control, and further assessment of electrical faults and damage was initiated.
