₹31.5L stolen from industrialist’s Vesu bungalow

Surat: Cash and jewellery worth Rs 31.47 lakh were stolen from the Vesu bungalow of a textile industrialist who also owns a chain of schools, after the house was left unlocked during a late-night outing. Police registered an FIR nearly a month after the theft, as the suspect remains unidentified.The theft occurred at the bungalow of Abhishek Anand Jain (40), in the Anand Jain–Kailash Jain bungalow enclave behind SD Jain School in Vesu. Jain lives there with his parents, wife and three sons.According to the complaint, Jain and his wife stepped out around 9pm on April 16. His bedroom on the second floor was open, and while the main door was closed, it was not locked.After the outing, Jain went to a friend’s house and returned home around 1.45am. He noticed no disturbance at that time. The theft came to light the next morning when his wife, Richa, opened a cupboard and found Rs 15 lakh in cash missing. On checking another cupboard, she discovered that jewellery worth Rs 16.47 lakh had also been stolen.When Jain reviewed CCTV footage from the SD Jain school premises, a man was seen entering the bungalow around 10.30pm and leaving at about 1.45am. Police sources said Jain’s parents and three sons were at home at the time but did not notice anything amiss as they were asleep in other rooms.Abhishek Jain and his father, Anand Jain, are trustees of the SD Jain school chain in Surat. The family also owns a textile printing unit in Pandesara.Umra police registered an FIR for theft and launched an investigation.
