Surat: A 24-year-old diamond artisan and his wife died by suicide at their home in the Dabholi area of Surat on Sunday evening. The couple, who had married two years ago after a brief courtship, were found hanged in their room. Police said no suicide note or clear reason has been found so far. The family of the deceased has demanded a fair investigation.According to police, the wife tied a nylon rope to a steel hook near the washing area and hanged herself, while the husband used a nylon rope to hang himself from a fan hook inside the room. The door had been locked from the inside. The deceased are Bhavesh Devipujak, 24, and his 23-year-old wife Tejal Devipujak. They were living in a room in Dabholi village. Neighbours alerted police after noticing the couple had not responded and on later seeing the bodies hanging through a window. Singanpor police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and brought down the bodies. After completing the required formalities, the bodies were sent to for postmortems. Police said Bhavesh had been living in Dabholi for five years and worked as a diamond artisan. His family includes three brothers, a sister, parents and grandparents, many of whom live nearby. An unnatural death was registered. Police seized the couple’s mobile phones and other belongings and are examining whether they made any calls before their deaths or were under stress.
