Trader loses Rs 29 lakh to APK fraud

Surat: A textile trader has lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police after losing Rs 29 lakh in an APK-related fraud.According to police, the cybercrooks sent the trader an APK file, claiming it was required to save his GST number. On Dec 16, complainant Ishwar Krishnani’s uncle, Vishnu, contacted a transporter, Bhumi Transport, whose number he found on Google, to arrange delivery of material to Diu. Vishnu requested the transporter’s GST number to generate an e-way bill. The accused sent an APK file, claiming that opening it would provide the GST details.However, the caller then asked for additional information, including net banking details, prompting Vishnu to disconnect the call. On Dec 20, a cheque issued by the firm was returned. Upon checking his account, Krishnani discovered that Rs 29 lakh had been withdrawn in 12 transactions by an unknown person.He approached the Surat cybercrime police and lodged a formal complaint.
