Surat: A 28-year-old man has filed a complaint with Vesu police alleging that an unknown person sent him morphed pictures of his wife and subjected him to harassment, abuse and threats on social media for the past five months.According to the complaint, the victim works at a garment firm in the Ring Road area of the city. On Sep 18, while he was at work, he received abusive messages on his Telegram account from an unknown sender, along with a photograph of his wife. The sender later shared a photograph of a police complaint that the victim had lodged with Vesu police in Aug regarding similar harassment.As the copy of the complaint was available only on the mobile phones of the victim’s family members, he suspected that their phones might have been hacked. The accused also sent a screenshot claiming that the victim’s wife had spoken to someone for 14 minutes and threatened to send more such messages.The complainant further stated that the accused created around 10 different Instagram IDs to continue sending abusive and intimidating messages. As the harassment persisted, he approached Vesu police again.Police inspector JI Patel said, “We have registered a case under sections 352 and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the IT Act for criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. Technical surveillance has been initiated as the accused has been traced to another city outside Surat. He will be arrested soon.”
