Surat developer apologises for bursting firecrackers in public

Surat: Surat land developer Dipak Ijardar has apologised after drawing public ire for bursting firecrackers on a busy road to celebrate his son’s birthday. The incident, which caused traffic congestion and went viral on social media, led to his arrest for violating a police commissioner’s notification prohibiting such acts.Assistant commissioner of police Deep Vakil said, “Ijardar was arrested after he blocked traffic and began bursting firecrackers on the public road in front of his bungalow on Sunday evening around 8pm. Bursting firecrackers on a public road is a clear violation of the CP’s notification, so he was booked immediately after the video went viral. During legal proceedings, he apologised and promised not to repeat the act.Ijardar resides in Bhakti Bunglow beside the post office in Sultanabad village under the Dumas police station area. The incident reportedly caused a heavy traffic jam, and witnesses said Ijardar allegedly threatened a motorist with flames from the firecrackers in his hand, as if to set him on fire. This is not the first controversy involving Ijardar. In July, he allegedly threatened a woman, Darshana Patel, over fixing posters in Sultanabad. He reportedly abused her in front of her son with the help of his bodyguards. The matter was reported to the Dumas police, and Ijardar was booked based on Patel’s complaint.
