SMC to expand futuristic labs to 6 more municipal schools

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to expand its Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, drone technology, and 3D printing laboratory initiative to six more municipal schools, a move aimed at bolstering science and technology education among economically disadvantaged students.Earlier, SMC had established 12 such advanced laboratories across municipal schools, under which nearly 11,000 students from financially weaker backgrounds and about 230 teachers received training in emerging technologies. With the latest expansion, the new laboratories are expected to benefit an additional 5,000 students and 65 teachers from secondary and higher secondary sections. The laboratories provide hands-on training in AI, robotics, drone operations, and 3D printing through well-equipped practical kits. Professional subject experts are engaged to train both teachers and students, ensuring quality instruction and continuous upskilling. Alongside teacher training, co-teaching support from industry professionals is also provided to enhance classroom delivery and practical exposure.SMC officials stated that Surat took a pioneering lead in the state by systematically introducing advanced science and technical education within the municipal school system. The initiative aims to bridge the digital and skills gap for students from economically weaker families and prepare them for future technology-driven careers.
