Organs of four brain-dead people donated

Surat: Organs of four brain-dead individuals were donated on Monday, resulting in 14 organs being harvested and giving new life to several patients in need.The donations were facilitated across multiple hospitals. At New Civil Hospital (NCH), the family of 48-year-old Kailas Ahire, a native of Kuttarmare in Dhule, Maharashtra, consented to donate his two kidneys, liver and corneas. This marked the 86th organ donation facilitated by NCH.Two more donations — those of 46-year-old Ila Prajapati and 55-year-old Manu Kacha — were carried out at the Advanced Institute of Higher Medical Science and Research Centre in Nana Varachha. From Prajapati’s body, doctors retrieved one liver, one kidney and two corneas. Kacha’s donation yielded one liver, one kidney and two corneas as well.The fourth donation took place at Kiran Hospital, where the liver of 68-year-old Rajasthan native Chhagan Lal was harvested.“This is a significant day in Surat’s organ donation journey, with organs from four brain-dead donors being successfully retrieved,” said Ketan Naik, RMO, NCH. “The development also coincides with the birthday of Dilip Deshmukh, who has played a key role in promoting organ donation awareness in the city.”To mark the occasion, the Nursing Association led by its president, Iqbal Kadiwala, organized an awareness event at NCH, where staff members involved in transplant coordination efforts were felicitated.
