No traffic fines till October 27: Gujarat junior home minister Harsh Sanghavi | Surat

SURAT : Gujarat’s junior home minister, Harsh Sanghavi, announced on Friday that the police across the state will not collect fines for traffic violations from commuters starting midnight of October 21 to October 27 during Diwali festivities. The minister said this during a function held in the Diamond City on Friday.
“An important decision has been taken under the guidance of chief minister Bhupendra Patel. Starting October 21 till midnight October 27, Gujarat police will not penalize anyone for traffic violation in the state. If traffic cops catch anyone without a helmet, licence or for any other traffic violation, he or she will be greeted with a flower,” Sanghavi said during the ‘Safe Diwali, Safe Surat’ function of the city police here.
Meanwhile, Suratis engrossed in Diwali shopping and celebration will have to plan in advance if they want to venture out on a vehicle due to heavy traffic snarls. They need to brace up for traffic jams at every junction in the city.
Top traffic and civic officials in Surat said that people are coming out in large numbers for shopping and other work, leading to frequent traffic jams.
