Mastermind Of Koth Bus Robbery Held | Surat

Surat: The city police on Thursday arrested a 35-year-old man from Kapodra area for his alleged involvement in the robbery worth crores from an Amreli-Surat bus of Ramdev Travels. The crime took place in the Koth police station limits of Ahmedabad district in early hours of Wednesday.
Accused Hiren Dhiru Aakoliya, a resident of Sarthana and a native of Dhari in Amreli, is the mastermind of the loot. A team of prevention of crime branch arrested Aakoliya based on specific details provided by Ahmedabad rural police. Ahmedabad and Anand police in a joint operation had earlier caught nine accused in the case.
The city police kept a watch at strategic locations and nabbed the mastermind. Aakoliya, who now sells sand on commission, was working in Ramdev Travels office in Nana Varachha as an accountant since 2011 but he quit the job in 2019.
He started his sand business. He suffered a huge loss as the business was closed for two years in view of the pandemic. He had a debt of Rs 40 lakh and was in search of ways to make quick money. He was aware that delivery men of seven angadia operators regularly travel between Amreli and Surat through Ramdev Travels and carry valuables. “He knew that the delivery men will be carrying high-value parcels during Diwali,” said police.
He then contacted his friend Raju Hathila of Ahmedabad and they hired a gang from Nashik in Maharashtra. The gang of 17 robbers was provided with a plan to carry out the robbery at Kamrej near the city. As planned, 11 gang members sat in the bus from Amreli with pistols while six were waiting on the highway in the limits of Koth police station in Ahmedabad district.
They stopped the bus at a pre-decided location and escaped with valuables.
