Surat: A 35-year-old head constable posted at the police commissioner’s office was allegedly assaulted by four persons in Nana Varachha on Thursday night.The incident occurred when the cop Akshay Ahir, who was returning home after duty, stopped to clear a traffic jam. Kapodra police have registered a case against four unidentified accused. However, no arrests had been made even 24 hours after the incident.According to details, Ahir was passing near the health centre in Nana Varachha around 9.30pm when he noticed heavy traffic congestion caused by private buses. Taking responsibility, he stepped out of his car and began managing the traffic.During this, he noticed a car parked irresponsibly near a private bus, further worsening the congestion. When Ahir asked the driver to move the vehicle, the driver allegedly threatened him and questioned his authority. Ahir then showed his identity card and informed the man that he was performing official duty.Despite this, the driver and his aide allegedly began assaulting him. One of them reportedly wore a metal object on his hand and repeatedly punched Ahir. Two more persons then came out of the bus and joined in the assault.As a crowd gathered at the spot, the assailants fled. Ahir was later taken to PP Maniya Hospital, where doctors confirmed fractures near his nose caused by punches with a hard object.Kapodra police have booked the four accused for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty and voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon. Police said the accused are yet to be identified, and efforts are on to trace and arrest them.
