Surat: A 58-year-old unemployed diamond artisan, Ghanshyam Ramoliya, died by suicide on Saturday morning by jumping off the fourth-floor terrace of Krushna Kunj Apartments in the Kapodra area of the city.Preliminary findings indicate that Ramoliya, who was suffering from an intestinal disease, went to the building terrace and jumped off, resulting in his almost immediate death. Police sent his body for a postmortem.Ramoliya had been bedridden for the past few months due to his illness, which worsened his quality of life significantly. About a year ago, he quit his job as a diamond artisan as his health issues rendered him unable to continue working.Police began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, registering a case of accidental death. They also reached out to Ramoliya’s family and friends to gather more information about his mental and physical state in the days leading up to his death.“From the preliminary investigation, it seems Ramoliya was depressed due to his health issues. He got into a heated altercation with his wife that morning and later went to the terrace,” a police officer said. During their argument, Ramoliya allegedly pushed his wife, causing her minor injuries. They lived in a third-floor apartment. After leaving the flat, Ramoliya went to the terrace and jumped off.
