Surat: Anti-corruption bureau (ACB) police caught Class 1 and Class 2 officers of the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) allegedly taking a Rs 40,000 bribe.Bharuch FDCA assistant commissioner Prakash Posnani (54) and FDCA inspector Surbhi Desai (29) were allegedly caught red handed taking the bribe at their office in Bharuch. The accused were caught in a trap laid by Narmada ACB police.According to details of the case, the complainants applied to the office of the assistant commissioner, Food and Drug Control Administration, Bharuch, for a new wholesale drug licence. Regarding issuance of the licence, Desai told the complainants that the licence process would be completed, but that Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 would have to be paid to the officer, thereby demanding a bribe.The complainants approached Narmada ACB police station and a trap was laid on Tuesday under the ACB Vadodara unit. During the operation, Posnani and Desai allegedly accepted bribe money of Rs 40,000 in the commissioner’s office from the complainant and were caught.As they allegedly misused their official positions as public servants and committed corrupt misconduct, an offence was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
