Surat: Citizens can now use the E-Sign (E-Hastakshar) Aadhaar-based digital signature system while accessing various online services of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). Identity verification can be completed either through biometric authentication or a one-time password (OTP) sent to the registered mobile number, making transactions faster and paperless. The facility has been enabled for multiple services, including change of name, addition of tenant or occupier, modification of address, new assessment, and revision of property details. Applicants seeking professional tax registration and shop establishment registration can also use the E-Sign feature.SMC will further implement this facility in its recruitment system, allowing applicants to digitally sign job applications and upload qualification documents securely.Housing societies can also benefit from the new feature by using it for applications related to water connections, drainage, streetlights, and roadwork requests.“Previously, applicants were required to upload scanned copies of documents for verification. With this facility, identity can be confirmed simply through an OTP,” an SMC official said.
