Dy CM Sanghavi inaugurates new police station

Surat: Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday inaugurated Ashwini Kumar police station, a new facility carved out of Kapodra and Varachha police limits, built at a cost of Rs 1 crore with public participation. During the event, he also unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the premises.Sanghavi also laid the foundation for the construction of 232 modern, fully equipped residential units for police personnel at the headquarters in Athwalines. The quarters, being developed at a cost of Rs 75 crore across multiple city locations, aim to provide upgraded housing for police staff.Addressing the gathering at the newly built station on the banks of the Tapi river in Varachha, Sanghavi said, “Surat holds immense historical significance as the land of the Tapi, referred to as Suryaputri, and of Danveer Karna.” City police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut said the new station will cover approximately 35% of Varachha and 30% of Kapodra limits, providing round-the-clock policing to ensure public safety.
