Surat: A BRTS bus caught fire in the Amroli area on Friday evening, triggering panic among passengers but fortunately leaving everyone unhurt. The incident occurred around 7.30 pm near the Amroli crossroad when the bus was travelling from Kosad to Surat Railway Station. At the time, more than 20 passengers were on board. The driver noticed smoke billowing from the vehicle and promptly halted the bus, allowing all passengers to alight safely before the flames intensified.Soon after, a team from the Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading further and averting a major mishap.A preliminary probe suggests that a short circuit in the bus’s electrical wiring may have triggered the fire. The exact cause, however, will be confirmed after a detailed technical inspection. The incident led to temporary traffic disruption in the area, while the fire engulfed the entire bus.“The bus caught fire rapidly, but due to timely action, all passengers got down safely. Our team reached the spot within minutes, but by then the entire bus was engulfed in flames,” an SFES official said, adding that the fire was brought under control swiftly.
