Bootlegger faces 44th prohibition case, caught with IMFL worth Rs 5.6L | Surat News


Surat: A 50-year-old woman was arrested for the 44th time in a bootlegging case after police seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 5.68 lakh during a raid in the city on Friday, officials said.The accused, identified as Mina alias Minakshi Rana, allegedly operated a liquor racket in the city. Police also detained her 22-year-old son, Ayush, for allegedly assisting her in the operation.According to officials, the illicit liquor was stocked at Shivam Apartment in the Golwad area. The raid was conducted by the local crime branch team of Zone 3 following specific inputs.Police records show that Mina has been booked in 43 prohibition-related cases across various police stations in the past. Investigators said she began bootlegging around 12 years ago and was first arrested in 2014. As many as 15 cases were registered against her in 2016 alone.Her husband is physically disabled, and her son allegedly played an active role in running the racket. Police are now probing the supply chain and possible links with other liquor suppliers. The accused and her associates allegedly sourced liquor from different places, including Daman.
