Aap Candidate’s 20l Looted In Bardoli | Surat

SuRAT: The loot of Rs 20 lakh cash from the car of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Bardoli constituency candidate Rajendra Solanki took a new turn on Thursday after police claimed that the money was sent through a local courier firm from Ahmedabad.
Solanki had claimed in his FIR registered in Bardoli police station that the money was his and it was supposed to be handed over by a driver named Saurabh Parashar to another driver Alpesh Thakore.
AAP leaders have refuted the doubts raised against the cash and claimed that the money belongs to Solanki.
Following the police revelation, Solanki, a farmer, went underground and was not available for comments when TOI tried to contact him.
In the incident, Parashar had parked Solanki’s car near Bardoli police station on Wednesday evening and gone for some wor . Meanwhile, two unidentified persons with covered faces broke a window of the car and looted the bag containing Rs 20 lakh cash. A man named Aadil Memon saw the loot and chased the robbers on his motorcycle for a couple of kilometers and called for help. After trying to escape, the robbers threw the bag on the road and fled.
Later, Memon arrived at the police station with the cash.
The income tax department has also joined the probe to trace the source of money.
“Police found that a total of Rs 41 lakh was sent from Ahmedabad through Angadia and received by Solanki’s man Parashar. The cash was received on October 6, 7, 10 and 11. As the transactions are linked to a poll candidate, we have alerted other government agencies like the income tax department and Enforcement Directorate,” said Rajkumar Pandian, additional DGP, Surat range.
Manoj Sorathiya, state general secretary of AAP, said, “The claim of Rs 41 lakh coming through angadia is fake. It is obvious that a candidate will arrange for money for campaigning which got looted in Bardoli.”
“Solanki is a farmer and owns land. He had arranged the money for campaigning. Police cannot seize the money when we are cooperating. This is being done to stop us from campaigning,” added Sorathiya.
