Surat: The Detection Of Crime Branch (DCB), with the help of the Surat Rural SOG, seized 977gm of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 29.32 lakh and arrested two persons, including former air hostess Mansi Abdul Saiyed (41) and Sohel Shaikh (20).Police said Mansi had allegedly been involved in drug trafficking for several years and had adopted various methods to smuggle narcotics, including concealing MD in children’s diapers.Additional commissioner of police (crime) Dr Karanraj Vaghela said the Crime Branch received specific information that Mansi was transporting a consignment of MD in a car. She and Shaikh were travelling from Ahmedabad towards Mumbai when police intercepted them at the Ena village toll plaza on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Palsana.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told investigators that the consignment had been handed over to them by a woman near Vadodara railway station and was to be distributed among drug peddlers in Mumbai.According to police, Mansi said she had started consuming MD in 2015 and later became involved in its trafficking. Investigators also found that she had allegedly been supplying drugs in different areas for around two years.Police said Mansi had earlier been arrested by the Indore crime branch in 2021 with around 100gm of mephedrone and had spent four years in jail. In the present case, investigators found that she had allegedly used children’s diapers to conceal and transport MD.Police said Mansi started consuming drugs while working in the aviation sector and later became involved in drug trafficking.Mansi’s drug trail began during aviation careerMansi grew up in the Air India Colony in Mumbai, where her father worked as a senior technician with Air India. She studied up to Class 10 and lived in the colony until 2016, when her father retired. According to police, Mansi later worked with stage artistes in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi and lived in Bengaluru for around eight years. A trained classical dancer, she has travelled to Dubai, Singapore, Muscat and Bahrain. She also told investigators that she had worked as a cabin crew member with an international airline.
