Navsari scribe held for accepting Rs 51,000 bribe

Surat: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Navsari-based journalist Satshankar Mishra while allegedly accepting a Rs 51,000 bribe from a complainant.According to the ACB, Mishra, who works with a local newspaper, had approached the complainant alleging corruption in govt -approved projects carried out by him. Mishra subsequently published reports related to the alleged irregularities and also filed an application under the RTI Act seeking records of the projects.The ACB alleged that Mishra later demanded Rs 51,000 from the complainant in exchange for not publishing further reports against him and suppressing the matter.The complainant contacted the ACB, and subsequently lodged a complaint at the Navsari ACB police station.Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at Sarovar Kathiyawadi Hotel in Navsari. During the operation, Mishra allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 51,000 from the complainant and was caught on the spot.
