10 criminals transferred from Lajpore jail to avert gang war

Surat: In a rare move aimed at maintaining security and preventing gang-related violence, 10 accused involved in serious crimes have been transferred from Surat’s Lajpore Central Jail to different jails across the state.Jail authorities took the decision after concerns were raised over the possibility of a gang war and the involvement of certain inmates in organised criminal activities. The authorities approached the court, citing the need to maintain discipline, safety and security within the jail and obtained permission to transfer the 10 accused. The transfer process for another 20 accused is also underway.According to officials, some individuals accused in serious crimes, who are currently lodged in Lajpore Central Jail, have allegedly been using their local connections and influence to facilitate organised criminal activities from within the prison. In view of these concerns, the court granted permission to transfer the accused, including Pravin alias Deepak Raut, Anish Pathan, Joeb alias Juheb Ansari, Vikas alias Vicky Ahire and Navin Singavan alias Jadiyo, along with five others. The transfers are intended to strengthen internal security, prevent clashes between rival groups and ensure that criminal networks operating through local contacts do not affect the law-and-order situation in Surat and the surrounding areas.Meanwhile, legal proceedings have also been initiated for the transfer of more than 20 other accused involved in serious crimes. The process of obtaining the required permission from the concerned courts for their transfer is currently underway.
