Surat: A real estate developer’s visit to the CID (crime) office in Gandhinagar exposed an alleged impersonation racket after a caller claiming to be a police inspector repeatedly threatened him over a business dispute and sought to pressure him into a settlement.Katargam police have registered an FIR against one Tarun Parmar for allegedly posing as a CID (crime) inspector during phone calls with the builder and threatening him to try and get him to settle a dispute with his business partners.According to the complaint, Parmar frequently called and threatened Dhaval Vavadiya with legal action. He also allegedly summoned Vavadiya to Gandhinagar, claiming to be posted with CID (crime).Vavadiya is a real estate developer. His family members Vijay Vavadiya and Jayesh Gehani formed a partnership called Cosmo Gems LLP with Ahmedabad-based Uday Odedara, his father Raja Odedara. The venture was to produce CVD diamond machines but was dissolved on March 31, 2026, after it failed to take off.The FIR states that the Odedara family owed money to the Vavadiya family and had promised repayment in June. When the payment did not materialise, the Vavadiya family repeatedly followed up with reminders.On Aug 5, Parmar allegedly called Vavadiya and threatened him about his calls to Uday and Raja Odedara. He introduced himself as a police inspector with CID (crime), in Gandhinagar, and threatened to register a case against Vavadiya, while telling him to settle the dispute.Vavadiya travelled to Gandhinagar on Aug 7 and called Parmar to a meeting. Parmar said he was out of town. Suspicious, Vavadiya went to the CID (crime) office and made inquiries.Police officers there told him that no police inspector named Tarun Parmar was serving with the department.Vavadiya later met Raja Odedara at his Ahmedabad residence and asked whether any police complaint had been filed over their dispute. As Odedara denied lodging a complaint, Vavadiya approached Katargam police.Based on his complaint, police registered an FIR against Parmar for allegedly impersonating a public servant and issuing threats. Police have begun further investigation.
