Surat: A 33-year-old theft accused died after collapsing at Surat district court on Thursday evening, shortly after he was produced by Katargam police.The deceased, Naresh Parmar, a native of Amreli district who was living in Kamrej and working as a labourer, had been brought to the court in connection with a theft case. Court officials noticed his deteriorating condition and referred him for medical treatment. However, before he could be shifted to hospital, he collapsed on the court premises.He was rushed to New Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.Following the incident, Parmar’s relatives reached the hospital and alleged that Katargam police had picked him up three days earlier in connection with a liquor-related case and later implicated him in a theft case. They alleged police excesses.Doctors at the hospital, however, said they found no visible external injury marks on the body. They added that the exact cause of death would be established only after a forensic post-mortem scheduled for Friday.Police have not yet responded to the family’s allegations.
