Surat: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her classmate’s father, who gifted the minor a mobile phone to stay in touch and lured her with promises of marriage once she turned 18.The Kapodra police registered a case against the accused and initiated an investigation.According to police sources, the girl, a Class 9 student, resides on the first floor of the residential society, while her classmate lives on the fourth floor. The two girls frequently communicated via Instagram. Since the survivor used her mother’s phone and her classmate used her father’s Instagram account, the accused managed to establish contact with her.The matter first came to light when the girl’s elder sister noticed inappropriate messages between the minor and the friend’s father. She alerted their father, who subsequently stopped giving the girl access to the family mobile phone.However, on July 7, the elder sister discovered a new mobile phone in her possession. Upon questioning, she confessed that her classmate’s father purchased the phone for her and that they chatted secretly on WhatsApp for the past six months.After being taken into confidence by her sister, the girl revealed that the accused promised to marry her in the future and raped her twice at his residence when family members were away.Following the disclosure, the victim’s father approached the Kapodra police and lodged a formal complaint.
