Rain lashes parts of South Gujarat
Rain lashes the city on Tuesday morning and disrupted the routine life

Surat: Widespread rainfall since late Monday night brought much-needed relief across Surat and other parts of South Gujarat, ending days of oppressive heat and humidity. The monsoon intensified over Surat district on Tuesday, with showers reported from almost all talukas.Rain began in the early hours of Tuesday and continued intermittently through the afternoon, keeping the skies overcast and temperatures noticeably lower.According to district authorities, Surat district has received cumulative average rainfall of 85mm so far this monsoon, while the average rainfall recorded during Tuesday’s spell stood at 34mm. Kamrej taluka received the highest rainfall at 60mm.Surat city witnessed an intense spell in the morning, receiving 44mm of rain between 8am and 10am. By 4pm, the city’s total rainfall for the day had reached 61mm.

Among other talukas, Palsana recorded 45mm of rainfall, followed by Mahuva (41mm), Bardoli (39mm), Olpad (35mm), Chorasi (33mm) and Mangrol (30 mm). Mahuva experienced a particularly intense spell, receiving 25mm of rain between 10am and noon. Umarpada and Areth received 10mm each, while Mandvi recorded 5mm.The rainfall has also boosted the district’s seasonal figures. Surat city has recorded 156mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, while Kamrej has received 152mm.Elsewhere in South Gujarat, Valsad district also experienced heavy showers. Dharampur received 70mm of rainfall since morning, while Nanapondha recorded 45mm. In Dang district, Waghai received 41mm of rain.
