Surat: The special operations group (SOG) of city police arrested 52 persons on Saturday during a special enforcement drive conducted to maintain law and order and curb unlawful activities by antisocial elements. The operation, called “Operation Rambo 2”, was launched to enforce the public notification prohibiting the carrying of weapons in public areas.During the drive, police caught 45 persons in possession of various weapons, including knives and other sharp objects. Police said the seizures were made during checks at public places and crowded locations where suspects were found moving in suspicious circumstances.In addition to the weapons-related arrests, the SOG also apprehended four externed criminals who were allegedly violating their externment orders. Three absconders wanted in other cases were also traced and arrested during the same operation.Police officials said the action was aimed at creating a deterrent against street crime and preventing incidents linked to armed intimidation. The drive focused on identifying and intercepting individuals suspected of carrying weapons and ensuring immediate legal action under relevant provisions.Further investigation and legal proceedings are under way, and police said similar drives will continue to ensure public safety.
