Surat: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by her 35-year-old husband and three of his friends at her home in Kapodra in May 2025, when her husband called them over for a liquor party. The accused allegedly assaulted her and raped her that night. Kapodra police booked all four men for gang rape and began an investigation. The victim had a marketing job in 2023. During one assignment, she met the prime accused, who later became her husband. He introduced himself as a share trader and offered her a job. She was asked to appear for an interview at an office in Vesu. After their meeting, they began speaking over the phone. In May, 2024, the victim married the prime accused despite her family’s opposition to the union. In Oct 22, 2024, she left her parents’ home and started living with her husband in Kapodra. Three months into the marriage, the her husband alleged started assaulting and abusing her. She also learned that her husband was associated with the sale of liquor. In May 2025, the husband organized a liquor party at his house and called three friends. After drinking, all three accused quarrelled with the victim and assaulted her. They then allegedly took turns to rape the victim. After the crime, her husband allegedly threatened her, saying she should not say anything to anyone if she wanted to live. In June 2025, her husband abandoned her and she began living as a paying guest. In Feb, the victim’s cousin called her and asked her to come back home. She agreed and spoke to him and other family members about the gang rape. They told her to file a complaint, after which she did so with Kapodra police. Deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1) Alok Kumar told TOI: “We have apprehended three accused, including the husband. The fourth accused is living currently in Dubai. We will initiate proceedings to issue a look-out circular (LOC) against him.”
