Fisheries officer caught taking bribe for PMMSY subsidy

Surat: The Surat unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a fisheries officer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a beneficiary of a govt scheme in Ukai of Tapi district.According to officials, the ACB had received information that staff at the office of the assistant fisheries controller in Ukai were allegedly demanding Rs 5,000-8,000 bribe from beneficiaries seeking subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The money was allegedly sought for processing applications related to subsidies for purchasing bikes and insulated boxes under the scheme.Acting on the information, ACB officials coordinated with a beneficiary under the scheme and laid a trap. During communication with the beneficiary, the accused officer allegedly demanded Rs 6,000 to process the subsidy documents for the purchased bike and insulated box.In the trap carried out by ACB officials under the supervision of police inspector K J Dhaduk, the accused was caught red-handed taking the bribe at his office in Ukai.R R Chaudhary, assistant director of the ACB Surat unit, said that the arrested officer was identified as Tejas Chaudhary, serving as an assistant fisheries superintendent at the office of the assistant fisheries controller, Inland Fisheries Development Centre in Tapi district.An offence was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation was underway, police said.
