Surat: A day after history-sheeter Chirag Goti was arrested in a mephedrone drug planting case, Chowk Bazar police registered an FIR against him and six others in a case of extortion and abduction.Police said several alleged victims approached the police commissioner’s office after Goti’s arrest, accusing him of torture and extortion. At least four videos surfaced in which Goti was allegedly seen assaulting individuals, firing in the air and brandishing a firearm. Investigators said he circulated these videos among his associates to unleash fear and extort money.In a complaint filed at Chowk Bazar police station, Jignesh Vyas (36) alleged that in Oct 2021, he was intercepted near Royal Plaza while heading to make a payment related to a land deal. Goti, along with his brother Nirant Goti, Yuvraj Jadav and Ravi Bhal, allegedly extorted Rs 10 lakh from him. Goti also allegedly threatened him with a knife and demanded Rs 2 lakh per month as protection money.Vyas further alleged that on Oct 24, 2021, Goti abducted him in a car and took him to his residence in Radheshyam Society, where he was confined and assaulted by Goti, his father Ghanshyam, Nirant and others. The accused allegedly recorded a video of the assault and threatened to kill him if he approached the police.Deputy commissioner of police (SOG) Rajdeep Nakum said police have received multiple complaints and videos allegedly showing Goti torturing people to extort money or settle disputes. He urged victims to approach the police.Police have booked Goti, his father, brother and four others under IPC sections 386 (extortion), 363 (abduction), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), 504, 120B (criminal conspiracy), 34 and relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act.Goti, who has a criminal history, has at least five offences registered against him at Singanpor and Chowk Bazar police stations.Goti had surrendered on Monday in the case of planting drugs in his former partner Alpesh Miyani’s car and remanded to four days police custody on Tuesday.
