Surat: A 22-year-old woman has lodged a complaint with the Khatodara police accusing her neighbour and four of his family members of criminal defamation, breach of trust, and intimidation. She alleged that the man married her through deceit and later made her private audio chats viral on social media after she refused to live with him.Police said the accused, along with his parents, brother, and sister-in-law, have been booked under relevant sections of the BNS.According to the complaint, the woman and the accused had been friends for three years as they lived in the same society. In Oct 2024, he allegedly took her to Bharuch, where he married her at a temple and got the marriage registered, obtaining her signatures during the process.The woman alleged that she had clearly told him her parents’ should be informed. However, he allegedly assured her that his family would approach her parents at an appropriate time after the registration. Despite repeated requests, he avoided discussing the marriage with her family and refused to share marriage photographs or the registration certificate, which raised her suspicions.She further claimed that she later learned had had been in a previous relationship. Following this, she decided not to continue the relationship or live with him.Police said the accused and his family members then allegedly began threatening her, warning that her private audio chats would be made public if she sought a divorce. When she did not relent, the accused shared the recordings with her relatives and members of the society to defame her.The woman also alleged that she was threatened with the circulation of morphed photos and videos if she refused to continue the marriage.
