WR plans 483.65cr Kavach rollout on Udhna–Jalgaon section

Ahmedabad: Western Railway has proposed a major safety upgrade to implement the indigenous KAVACH train collision avoidance system on the Udhna–Jalgaon section and across its locomotive fleet under Indian Railways’ Umbrella Work Programme for 2024–25. The total proposed investment is Rs 483.65 crore.Of this, Rs 109.83 crore has been earmarked to install KAVACH on the 307-km Udhna–Jalgaon section, a key corridor for both passenger and freight trains, to enhance operational safety.An additional Rs 373.82 crore is proposed for modification, upgradation and programming of 436 locomotives of Western Railway to ensure full compatibility with the KAVACH system.The project is part of the larger national initiative, “Provision of KAVACH with communication backbone of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) on balance routes of Indian Railways (Umbrella Work 2024–25),” approved under the Works, Machinery & Rolling Stock Programme 2024–25 at an overall cost of Rs 27,693 crore (PH-33).
