Surat: With a sudden change in weather, the city and parts of Surat district received moderate to light rain on Thursday, affecting routine life and ongoing development work on major projects.Drizzling was reported across almost all parts of the city since early morning, which stopped later in the day. The weather remained cloudy throughout. The minimum temperature settled at 18°C, about 2°C higher than the past two days. In Hazira, heavy rainfall for a short duration disrupted vehicular movement.No heavy rain was reported in the district’s villages. “There is no heavy rain in Surat district, and it did not impact agricultural produce. The weather is expected to improve tomorrow,” said Jayesh Patel, a local farmer leader.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, “Light rainfall is very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, Valsad and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Friday.” The sudden wet spell is attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulation over northern Pakistan and bordering areas of Punjab, which is influencing weather further south in India, including Gujarat. Meanwhile, night temperatures at several places were appreciably higher than normal. The union territory of Diu recorded a minimum temperature of 19.7 degree Celsius, 7.5 degrees above normal. Ahmedabad, Amreli, Vadodara,Bhavnagar and Deesa also experienced unusually hotter nights with temperatures being around 6 degrees more than the normal.
